Transitional Kindergarten

What We Do

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is an exciting opportunity for our youngest learners to take their first step into elementary school. At SSFUSD, our TK classrooms are designed as a bridge between preschool and kindergarten — a place where children build confidence, develop essential skills, and discover the joy of learning in a structured school setting. Beginning in the 2026–27 school year, TK will be available at all nine of our elementary schools, bringing this important program closer to families across the district.

Message from Our TK Coordinator

Welcome, families!

My name is Lottie Kuwada, and I am thrilled that you are exploring Transitional Kindergarten (TK) at SSFUSD. Starting school is a big milestone — for children and for families — and I want you to know that our TK team is here to make that first step feel exciting, supported, and full of possibility.

As part of SSFUSD's Teaching & Learning team, I oversee our TK programs across the district and am happy to help you navigate enrollment, answer questions, or simply talk through whether TK is the right fit for your child. Every family's situation is different, and there is no question too small.

In addition to coordinating our TK program, I also lead SSFUSD's Induction program, which supports and mentors newly credentialed teachers across the district — because we believe that investing in our teachers is one of the most important ways we can invest in your children.

Thank you for considering SSFUSD for this important chapter in your child's life. I look forward to welcoming you!
